Traditional Education Series: Bo Seminar (Yamanni-Chinen-Ryu)

On Saturday, Aug.29, 2026, the Golden Crane hosted a Bo Seminar with Special Guest Instructor, Sensei Fred Mansfield, Jr., introducing students to the 'art' of Yamanni-Chinen-Ryu Bo-jutsu.

Yamanni-Chinen-Ryū is a form of Okinawan kobudō whose main weapon is the bo, a non-tapered, cylindrical staff. This art form is particularly known for known for it's wide, whipping strikes and a continuous, fluid flow of footwork and transitions.

Sensei Mansfield has over 40 years of martial arts experience in many styles of Okinawan Karate & Kobudo, Hakko-ryu Jujutsu, Judo, Systema and BJJ. He is a Rokudan Shihan in Beikoku Shidokan Shorin-Ryu under Seikichi Iha, and a Sandan in Yamanni-Chinen-Ryu under Kiyoshi Nishime.

In attendance, at the seminar, were Traditional Martial Artists from across the New England region.

A heartfelt 'Thank you!' to Sensei F. Mansfield, Jr, for sharing his knowledge and passion with us! The seminar was OUTSTANDING! Students left with a solid understanding of fundamentals for this art form, as well as two Kata (forms) to practice.

'Thank you!' to Sensei R. Borges, and the students from Borges Martial Arts, and Sensei S. Bladyka, from Okinawan Karate Academy, for joining us. We felt like one large community of martial artists, joined together by the desire to explore our martial arts.

Golden Crane is grateful for this connection. Our dojo fosters the belief that sharing our knowledge makes us all stronger, and helps preserve the legacy of Traditional Martial Arts.

Have an Interest in Traditional Martial Arts? We are always looking for New Students to share our passion with. Classes are offered in-person (Windham, NH), and also available online with us. Email: goldencrane04@gmail.com ; or, visit: www.goldencraneNH.com
