     Karate will make its debut appearance at the Summer Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, featuring both Kumite (sparring) and Kata (empty hand forms).

     We are pleased to announce that Sensei Akiyama has joined the Golden Crane to provide coaching to students who wish to pursue competition in Karate Tournaments, especially AAU Events.​

     A 5th Degree Black Belt in both Shorin-ryu and Goju-ryu Karate, Ms. Akiyama is an experienced competitor, a National & International Level Karate Champion, and a Licensed Technical Coach. 

     Mandy educates students on how to use their body to achieve the greatest effect, integrating Body Dynamics and Muscle & Core Development. Mandy’s well developed curriculum and teaching style provide a high level of success to its participants, allowing them to reach their peak performance for competition, and in their daily training.

Instructor's Bio:  Sensei Mandy Akiyama

M.Akiyama’s Credentials:

  • 1990-2004  10+Training in Traditional Karate @ House of the Samurai

  • Personally trained with world class, well known masters & martial artists, such as; Teruo Chinen, Chuck Merriman, Kyoshi Nishime, Robert Young, George Kotaka and others.

  • 1998 – AAU Nationals earned 2nd place in kumite; and achieved AAU Junior Olympic champion in kumite (1st Place). Placed in the top 15 at the AAU Junior World Karate Cup in Mishkolz, Hungary.

  • 1999 – AAU National Champion in kumite (1st Place); AAU Junior Olympic Champion in Kobudo and Kumite, 3rd place in kata.

  • 2000- AAU National Champion in kumite (1st place), AAU National Champion in Kobudo, 2nd place in kata; Placed in the top 10 at the AAU World Karate Cup in Mishkolz, Hungary.

  • 2004-2008 teaching for the US Military in Germany. Trained with various martial arts around Europe.

  • Started training in Koryu Uchinadi with Sensei Patrick McCarthy, and achieved Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) in Koryu Uchinadi

  • 2009-2012 Owner operator of House of the Samurai.

  • Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) in Goju-Ryu

  • Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) in Shorin-ryu

  • Trained under Sensei Patrick McCarthy, and achieved second degree black belt in Koryu Uchinadi.

  • 2013-present AAU coach. Coached and led multiple athletes to the AAU Nationals, AAU Junior Olympics, and international competition.

  • Licensed massage therapist since 2002
